Treatment Approach

I correct movement dysfunction and muscular imbalances to enhance swim performance
More specifically I . . .
  • Learn the swimmer's history, injury profile and performance goals.
  • Observe the swimmer's mobility and postural alignment.
  • Discover the swimmer's unique physiology through muscular palpation and fascia work.
  • Conduct neuromuscular assessment and retraining through facilitation and inhibition of the nervous system.
  • Develop customized exercises and strategies to help swimmers be more connected in and out of the water.

 My Motivation

My swimming goals were cut short by a shoulder injury.
As a young swimmer growing up in Ireland, I dreamed of making the Olympic team. Unfortunately, that dream came to an end when I muscled through a qualifying meet for the European Junior Nationals, ignoring my pain.

The therapy that I received was insurance driven..
The goal of my therapist was to help me achieve a daily function like combing my hair. My needs were not taken into account. I needed to regain strength and mobility in my shoulder so that I could swim fast again.

There is a specialized physical therapy.
Why can’t the client decide what their goals are? For athletes that want to return to their sport, there is a need to determine the underlying causes of their injuries. Perhaps there is a flaw in technique caused by a lack of mobility. Once this is diagnosed, a corrective program can be put in place to avoid these injuries in the future.

Now I am paying it forwards:  helping swimmers achieve.
My goal is to help swimmers reach their potential. Breaking bad habits, improving alignment, gaining strength, and perfecting technique are the goals in my practice. I want to be the specialist that fills the unique swimmer’s needs niche.

Cupping procedure

Treatment Applications

  • Myofascial Decompression (Cupping)
Using suction to lift up the muscles and stretch the fascia to allow increased vascularization and healing.
  • Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
Smoothing fascia with a dull blade to mobile soft tissue.
  • Dry Needling
Penetrating the muscle at a trigger point with a thin monofilament needle. This manages neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.
  • Mostability
Movement analysis to determine the optimal combination of mobility and stability that produces the MOST-ABILITY.

Testimonials

 Drylands that make a difference

"Most dryland workouts for swimmers focus on the main muscles used in swimming.  Brian's workouts focus on these but also the small muscles that support them and how they are used.  The result is a workout that has helped my swimming directly, not indirectly by simply making the big muscles stronger. "

Change your pull

"After a year of suffering with debilitating elbow pain, after seeing doctors, and after no improvement with traditional occupational therapy, Brian deconstructed my stroke, reconstructed my pull, and Viola! No more pain!"

Sarah Crewe
All American Triathlete

Stand tall

"Since working with Brian I am longer in the water and taller on land. As a PT and swimmer, he has a great ability to explain exactly how to make your muscles to work for you and get at the ones holding you back. "
